⏱ Full Day Excursion 📍 Departure: Marrakech 🏰 Destination: Ait Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate 👥 Private Transport

Overview

This full-day excursion is a dramatic overland crossing from western Morocco into the pre-Saharan south. Departing Marrakech in the morning, the road winds upward through the High Atlas, crossing the historic Tizi n'Tichka pass at an altitude of 2,260 meters. Along the way, green slopes give way to red peaks, barren canyons, and remote Berber mountain villages.

Descending the southern slopes, you enter the Ounila Valley toward Ksar Ait Ben Haddou. This extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the most complete earthen clay architecture complexes in Morocco, once guarding the historic caravan route between the Sahara Desert and Marrakech. Ait Ben Haddou is well known as a filming location used by numerous international productions.

Continuing further south brings you to Ouarzazate, historically known as the "Door of the Desert." Here you can view the exterior of Kasbah Taourirt or consider an optional stop at the local film studios, subject to itinerary, opening hours, and entrance conditions, before your private return drive across the Atlas.
